Course Overview (Benefits)
To enable certain personnel to be competent as workplace assessors. This course meets the statutory requirements of the Health & Safety Executive. The aim of this course is to:
- Reduce the number of manual handling injuries
- Reduction in company costs due to reduction in incident related costs
- Reduce the number of lost working hours
- Improve productivity of the workforce
Course Requirements
Need to wear appropriate clothing for manual tasks.

Course Content/Topics Covered
• Identify immediate and cumulative effects of strain and sprain injuries
• Show how it is possible to keep body stress to a minimum in a number of given handling activities
• Practical exercises on correct lifting techniques, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Twisting
• Repetitive strain injuries, use of hand mechanics
• Group Lifting
• Adopting a positive attitude towards safe systems of work
• Suggest ways to eliminate or control any handling hazards or unsafe handling practice within their area of control
• Legal Aspects of the directives
• Registering manual handling operations
• Company duties
• Analysis of movement
• Assessment of workplace problem areas
• Alternatives to lifting and carrying
• Commissioning the systems
• Course review and evaluation
Course content also covers documentation and lifting operations in accordance with EEC Directives.
